Corso Italia meets Via Marconi

As part of the Preston streetscaping project, major changes will be coming to the intersection of Preston/Gladstone. The pavement pattern has been approved. It will be installed and maintained by the Preston BIA. The planned use of brick pavers has run into technical snags, however, and alternative paving materials are being examined.

The BIA is also planning a celebratory sculpture arrangement at the corner. The draft concept sketch shown above is of 24' high soccer players  made of concrete, metal,  and stained glass.  There would be benches along their feet.

  1. whoa! they're huge! I like it... unfortunately, I feel as though modern sculptures like this seem to become dated quite quickly... but I like them. If this is option 1, is there an option 2?

Ps. you, or someone else, should post to the site! It could use content.. and to have things like directions during construction removed... :)

  2. I think those things are ugly

  3. Very ugly...and impractical...

Interesting how the artist sketch shows trees behind the sculptures...whereas on the actual corner the trees seem to be pretty much exactly where the sculptures would have to go. Then again, I guess they could just take out the sidewalks...,+Ottawa,+Ottawa+Division,+Ontario&gl=ca&ei=c9BxS8WVA4iMNqbVif4J&ved=0CAkQ8gEwAA&ll=45.404702,-75.711701&spn=0,359.98071&z=16&layer=c&cbll=45.404626,-75.711937&panoid=m2sOEl2pvt5_2_yG_TEOmw&cbp=12,68.32,,0,-6.13

Hopefully the BIA won't miss a few tree...I'm sure the community won't...
